A tiger killed a woman when she went to collect firewood at Kishanpur Sanctuary in Dudhwa Tiger Reserve in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh.
The incident took place on Thursday evening when a woman named Parvati entered the core area of the shrine while collecting firewood.
She was attacked by a tiger that was present in the area, said Raj Kumar Sharma, Range Officer, Mailani range of Kishanpur Sanctuary, who visited the spot. Many people heard her cry to save her and drive the tiger away. But the woman eventually succumbed to her injuries.
The woman's body has been sent for an autopsy.
